West Lynchburg Baptist Church is an evangelical Southern Baptist congregation that has been ministering in Lynchburg for over 100 years. Our vision, based upon Matthew 28:18-20, is to introduce people to Jesus Christ (evangelism), and train them to be His followers (discipleship).
Our theology could best be described as conservative, striving to be faithful to the timeless truths of the Bible while avoiding the extremes of both liberalism and legalism. Our worship services are a blend of the traditional and the contemporary, including both familiar hymns and modern praise choruses. In our services we strive for doctrinally sound, edifying music which enhances one’s worship experience without compromising or cheapening what we believe worship of our Lord Jesus Christ should be.
In summary, we believe the following components are at work in our church:
- competent biblical exposition
- a blended worship style
- a genuinely friendly fellowship of faith
- a commitment to reaching out to all ages and races (we realize that we need both the enthusiasm of the young and the wisdom of the old)
- a clear doctrinal identity characterized by commitment to the Bible as the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God and in agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message
- an unambiguous denominational identity defined by commitment to the Southern Baptist Convention and its entities
- a commitment to the congregational form of church polity where the priesthood of the believer is taught and practiced regarding church decisions.

Meet Our New Pastor - Dr. Robert Putt
Dr. Putt is a native of Big Island VA.
He has degrees from Bluefield College, Radford University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Drew University.
Dr. Putt has been a Youth Minister, Minister of Education, Associate Pastor and Pastor.
He has served as Director of Missions for Pittsylvania Baptist Association and most recently as Director of the Lynchburg Baptist Association.
He serves as Adjunct Professor in the Religious Studies Department at Lynchburg College.
He is married to Vicky Humphreys and has three daughters, Ashley, Jami and Chelsey.

The Couples 1 & Couples 2 Sunday School classes in the Adult 2 Department of WLBC, have adopted to help support the Knight family (Kevin, Jessica, Kellen and Kolton) Baptist Missionaries from Lynchburg, VA. They are serving the Lord in Karuizawa, Japan with Word of Life SYME Ministries.
